Justice Rex Davis began his academic journey at Temple Junior College and the University of Texas at Austin before earning his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Baylor University School of Law in May 1974. He was appointed to the Tenth Court of Appeals in May 1996, where he served as Chief Justice from 1996 to 2003. During his career, Justice Davis was recognized as the Outstanding Young Lawyer of 1982 by the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association and later served as the Association’s president.
In addition to his tenure on the Tenth Court of Appeals, Justice Davis was temporarily designated as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas in both the fall of 1998 and 2002. He also chaired the Council of Intermediate Chief Justices from 1999 to 2000 and served on the board of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas from 1999 to 2002.
After practicing law in Central Texas from 2003 to 2008, he was elected to a six-year term on the Tenth Court of Appeals in 2008 and was re-elected in 2014. Justice Davis is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. Additionally, he retired as an adjunct professor at Baylor Law School after 19 years of teaching.
Beyond his professional achievements, Justice Davis has been actively involved in his community. He is married to Donna Barnes, and together they have three sons, three daughters-in-law, and eight grandchildren. He has been a member and former teacher at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco, a retired Rotarian, and a former Little League coach. Justice Davis also served on the local school board for four years.
